Mell and Crescendo with 7 crew set Sail at 03:30 on Saturday from Blairgowrie to Apollo Bay, 63 nautical miles South West from BYS.

Initially the weather was mild but from the heads the wind was 15 to 20 knots SW, so we had to motor sail all the way taking 11 hours

Mell picked up some seaweed on the prop and had to sail the last 8 miles

Once in Apollo Bay we rafted up to the visitor’s section on the pier, this was quite protected and we had many folks interested in our endeavour.

The entrance to Apollo Bay is narrow and shallow. We had arranged with the harbour master to enter prior to 15:00 because of the tide.  There was no problem entering but you do need to keep to the west wall upon entering.

The stay at Apollo Bay was quite peaceful and the afternoons were sunny allowing us to enjoy a few drinks in the cockpit.  Sunday night we walked to Casalingo Italian restaurant for a scrumptious meal.

Monday morning up at 04:00 to leave by 05:00 back to BYS. The wind was 17 to 22 knots SE so we had a fast beam reach sail back taking 7 and half hours.

We all had a wonderful time and certainly hope to encourage others to come along and join the cruising division of BYS!
