|Chris served on the BYS committee as Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore then Commodore during the exciting period of the development of the current Safe Harbour (marina). His management skills were challenged as both the jetty and the marina were constructed during his term as Commodore.
Chris has a background of competitive sailing having won Australian and Victorian Championships in the Elwood Seahorse, Yvonne 20 Catamaran, Arrow Catamaran, International Tornado Catamaran and Farr 6000 trailable yacht.
For 10 years he campaigned his Tornado in European and World Championships twice being close to Olympic selection. His early involvement with BYS was with the Little America’s Cup for C Class Catamarans. He was a selector in the 1963 trials held at BYS and in 1972 was the first helmsman for Blairgowrie’s ‘Miss Nylex’, the radical but successful wing rigged catamaran that created sailing history.
He also helped introduce catamarans to BYS. He has served on the Yachting Victoria executive, is a Race Rules Judge and currently a member of the YV Race Officials Committee. In this capacity he advises BYS on regatta management and racing rules issues acting as Regatta Chairman for some major events sailed at Blairgowrie.
His professional background in marketing and advertising has assisted BYS in this area. His wife Barbara and daughter Julia are both BYS members and his son Matthew is a former member.
