Our Junior Sail Training program at BYS is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to Dinghy sailing for children of all ages. We have two options for getting your child into sailing, either starting through our School Holiday program targeted towards young children (7-12 yrs) called “Tackers”, or directly through the Junior Sail Training program.
Our Junior Sail Training program follows the Yachting Australia Start Sailing Syllabus and runs from 23 October 2016 through until 26 March 2017 from 0900-1200. During January, training is held two mornings a week. Dates can be found above. The club even supplies training Optimists for new sailors to use in their first 8 weeks to get into the sport!

These levels of the Junior Sail Training program are designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to Dinghy sailing for complete beginners. The Course includes an introduction to fundamental boat handling skills and essential safety knowledge.
This level of the Junior Sail Training program is designed to equip the sailor with enhanced skills and awareness of the surrounding environment. It builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the Start Sailing Course and will enable you to manoeuvre the boat efficiently in light  to moderate conditions on all points of sailing.
The aim of this level is to introduce Dinghy sailors to competitive sailing. The Course focuses on refining enhanced boat handling skills including speed control and manoeuvres. Introducing basic racing tactics and strategies.

We recommend that you look at getting your own boat if your child shows an interest in sailing. The current dinghies we have in the program are Optimists & Minnows.
