Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron is a family orientated club and an accredited Discover Sailing Centre that offers a full social and club racing program as well as courses and opportunities for all skill levels from beginners to the experienced sailor. The club actively encourages participation and is committed to passing on the skills needed to sail a boat as well as the sportsmanship that goes with it.
Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron offers a full social and club racing program offering sailors facilities, racing and activities in formats to suit everyone. The calendar includes races such as regular laid and fixed mark courses, long races, two handed races, night races, as well as social twilight racing on Fridays during summer where all are welcome, no experience is necessary.
Our comprehensive and diverse sail training program is recognised as one of the best in Australia and our club has earned an outstanding reputation for its professional conduct of State, National and World Sailing Championships.

We have an option to suit everyone when it comes to learning to love of sailing. Whether you are after a short learn to sail course or a member’s summer sail program, Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron and its team of qualified instructors and race officials can help. It is even easier to get into sailing at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron. With very little cost or commitment, members can enjoy the marvels of sailing. There’s are multitude of ways to get involved; learn to sail, social sailing, or even racing. There are dozens of boats every week looking for crew and a new online register simplifies the process all round.
Experience, Learn, Participate, easy as 123
Experience Like most things, its good to try before you buy. With the introduction of Discover Sailing Experiences, you can do just that. For as little as $90 you can book into one of the experience courses. During the three hours you’ll be seeing why millions of people around the world love sailing.
Learn If you want to learn more about sailing, it’s then time to enrol in one of our many courses. Firstly, its a good idea to decide what style of sailing interests you, The wet, fast and exciting Dinghy sailing or the group environment of Keelboat sailing. Participate Its now time to put these newly acquired skills into action. You can choose to learn advance techniques in a ‘Better Sailing’ course, or participate in a number of other ways. Why not participate in a club race? Either in a dinghy yourself or on a members keel-boat. We have a new crew register for those looking to join a boat and further their enjoyment of sailing. Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron also has a some club boats avaliable for your use, these include the Sabre ‘Son of Coco’, 2x Pacers, 2x Pacer Pursuit and 15x Tackers Optis
Interested in helping the race management?
If you are simply looking for a social network and to volunteer your time, we are always looking for more volunteers to help with off and on positions.
BYS has a range of volunteering opportunities available from radio operators to start box team members to patrol boat drivers and crew. It is our valued members and volunteers who deliver our regular club racing program and allow BYS to host national and international regattas from time to time. Our volunteers also support our sail training programs ensuring our junior and youth fleets receive the skills and opportunities they need to enjoy a lifetime of sailing.
