Last Saturday, the Regatta and Race Management (RRM) committee held an Australian Sailing Club Race Officers seminar at BYS in the McCarthy Centre. The seminar was conducted by Geoff Eldridge and Doc Little.
We had 27 participants, which surely must be a record for a Race Officers Seminar! Just 2 months ago, BYS also set the record for a Club Judge Seminar with 19 registrants, all of which goes to show the enthusiasm among our volunteer base to improve their race management knowledge and skills.
The course was attended by 24 BYS members and a handful of other participants from Mornington YC, Safety Beach Sailing Club and Royal Geelong YC. It was very pleasing to see a number of our experienced OOD’s attend the seminar which gave them an insight into on-water race management.
A big thank you to BYS for part subsidising the seminar fee for its members and also for providing morning and afternoon teas and lunch.
In the past 2 months, the RRM committee has conducted seminars and workshops for over 50 people in an effort to rapidly up-skill our club’s volunteer base. We still have a way to go.
Our next workshop on Club level GPS assisted mark laying is scheduled for Sunday Nov 11th. The course is rapidly filling up with only 4 more vacancies.
If this is of interest, please contact Doc, Pete Southwell, Greg Rowland, Phil Beattie from the RRM or Gordon Hyde, our new Sailing Manager.
Please look out for notices of future courses.
