I Still Call Australia Home – The Peter Allen Story
Saturday 4 May 2019
I Still Call Australia Home: The Peter Allen Story provides audiences with an intimate experience of storytelling and song through the eyes and vocals of one of Australia’s most talented showmen!
Peter Allen’s rise to stardom was nothing short of fascinating and complex. In this show, Allen’s story is thoughtfully brought to life alongside the leading ladies who came and went, but nevertheless remained an important part of his journey to becoming more than simply “the boy next door”.
In 2003 the internationally acclaimed Hugh Jackman played the role of Peter Allen on Broadway in “The Boy From Oz” for a sensational 12 month run, winning a Tony Award for his performance, and the production won four Tony’s including the award for Best Musical. In 2015/2016 Hugh brought Peter to life once again as part of his “Broadway to Oz” arena spectacular, playing to sell out crowds across the country. Another notable Australian to successfully play the role of Peter was Todd McKenney. He starred in the original production of “The Boy From Oz” in 1998, touring the nation and clocking up 766 performances over 2 years playing to 1.2 million people. This production featured Chrissy Amphlett of Divinyls fame in the role of Judy Garland.
Starring Jonathan Guthrie-Jones (star of Australian musical theatre) as Peter Allen and supported by Adrienne George (Judy Garland), Nicole Kapiniaris (Liza Minnelli), Gabrielle O’Brien (Marion Woolnough) and Alexandra Clover (Olivia Newton-John) and featuring some of Peter Allen’s most-loved and bewitching songs including; Rio, I Still Call Australia Home, Tenterfield Sadler and I Honestly Love You, this is one show you surely do not want to miss!
