Here at the Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Sailing & Boating Centre we offer a variety of courses to suit those who are powerboat operators.

This course will equip candidates to manage life threatening emergencies until professional medical help arrives. The courses focus includes CPR, treatment of common medical conditions and situation recognition and management.

A VHF Marine Radio Licence (Certificate of Proficiency) is a legal requirement for everyone who use a marine VHF radio. The new Australian Waters Qualifications is here. Develop confidence, competent, and LEGAL in marine radio usage. The course is four hours, and covers theory and practical hands on instruction, followed by a theory and practical test.

Course held at Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron.

The Powerboat Handling is a course designed to introduce you to practical driving skills, trip planning, boat maintenance and safety equipment and improve your boat handling skills, especially in confined areas such as marinas and in difference water conditions such as swell and waves.

The Powerboat Handling course will cover areas such as passage planning, sourcing weather information, powerboat terminology and rules, boat launching and docking as well as man overboard recovery.

A powerboat licence is required to complete this course.

This course will develop your powerboat skills so that you can support all water-based activities at sailing clubs, schools and recreation centres. If you want to become a qualified sailing instructor, coach or official, this course is ideal.
You’ll learn about race course design, practice on-water rescue of dinghies and multi-hulls, and get an awareness of techniques to support kite surfers and kayaks. You’ll also discover how to safely rescue or re-right other craft, recover persons from the water, and where to position your boat on a race course.
