Our Youth Sail Training program is designed for young people wanting to get into sailing, as well as those who have come through the Junior Sail Training program. Its purpose is to encourage and promote youth sailing by providing pathways for young people aged between 12 and 24 to develop the skills necessary to achieve and enjoy the sport of sailing in a fun and friendly environment. It is run in two streams – racing and sailing. Youth Sail Training is a program for Members and Non-Members.

When is Youth Sail Training?

The 2020 Youth Sail Training program commences 27th December 2020 – March 21st 2021.  Youth sessions will run from a new time slot of 10.00 – 13.00 (during school term). Summer Holiday times will vary.

 

Youth Sail Training Fees

DECEMBER 2020 – MARCH 2021:
 
BYS member: Youth Social Sailing & Youth Racing – $400 incl GST*
NON BYS Member – $550 inc GST*

What do I get for my fees?
Weekly training with qualified coaches following the Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Syllabus. At the conclusion of each level students will receive a certificate as well as information regarding further courses and club programs. Instructors will be available to discuss sailing pathways and general advice for those looking to continue their sailing experience.

Youth Social (OutThere Sailing) Group

Our Youth Social Sailing group (incorporating AS OutThere program) is designed for 12-years and above. The program is flexible by design, allowing the youth to take ownership of their own program; they may sail on the club pacers, a club keelboat or go windsurfing. They may challenge themselves to some fun racing. The program is flexible week to week based on participants and weather. At the core of the program is the essential sailing and better sailing skills. The program is guided and delivered by qualified Australian Sailing Instructors. No experience is needed – all equipment and boats are supplied!
 

Course Syllabus

Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment. Areas covered during the season include Basic clothing and equipment selection, sailing terminology, boat launch and recovery, capsize recovery in shallow water, Rigging of the boat, capsize recovery in deeper water, sail a triangular course, basic sailing rules and theory.
Discover Sailing in stronger winds as you develop the skills required to get maximum speed from your dinghy. Your journey speeds up as you experience the thrill of using a spinnaker, and practice better control of your boat. This course is aimed at sailors who have completed Start Sailing 1 and 2, or who have more sailing experience.
Its purpose is to encourage and promote youth sailing by providing pathways for youth aged 12 -24 to develop the skills necessary to achieve continue enjoying the sport of sailing and achieve results in an competitive environment by giving our youth sailors coaching and training by experienced coaches.
